Introduction

My name is Carly Rocha, and this is my second year attending Central Washington University. I am planning to major in psychology with a double minor in art history and art studio. I have always been passionate for the arts, and I would love to help heal through art therapy. I love all different styles of art, but  I find myself attracted to the works of art created by artists such as Georgia O' Keeffe, Salvador Dali, Ansel Adams, Annie Leibovitz, Frida Kahlo, Diego Rivera, and many more!

  1. Hi Carly! I'm glad to hear that you are doing to minor in art history.

Just based on your favorite artists, I can tell that you are drawn to works of art from the 20th century. I hope that you will discover works of art that appeal to you in the earlier times periods that we'll discuss this quarter. A lot of 20th century artists were inspired by the abstract art found in ancient cultures - I'm particularly thinking of how Brancusi's art has been compared to the Cycladic female figurines (see p. 82 in our textbook). Perhaps some of the abstract patterns will appeal to you, too!

    Welcome to the class!
